Mr. Miller is a partner in the Trial group with a dynamic practice involving complex business litigation, employment, products liability, and personal injury defense for clients in fields including healthcare, government, financial services, and transportation. Mr. Miller handles matters through all stages of litigation, including trial and appeal, and values the opportunity to work with clients throughout Iowa and elsewhere in assessing and serving their legal needs to achieve optimal results.

In addition to Mr. Miller's active litigation work, he also serves as the Pro Bono Coordinator for Dorsey's Des Moines office and continually represents one or more clients on a pro bono basis. He has also served as the coordinator and participant for the firm's volunteer involvement in the Iowa State Fair's Trial by Jury program, which is a mock trial presented every evening of the Fair.

Mr. Miller currently serves as a member of the Board of Governors (the highest governing body) of the Polk County Bar Association (PCBA). He was elected Treasurer of the group in 2013 and will continue in successive leadership roles culminating in 2016, when he will be the organization's presumptive President.

In 2012, he was appointed by the Chief Justice of Iowa to the Iowa Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on Rules of Civil Procedure and he was reappointed to the Committee in fall 2013. These appointments follow two, three-year terms on the Iowa Supreme Court's Continuing Legal Education Commission, which is charged with overseeing the state's CLE program for attorneys.

Mr. Miller is a member of the National Advisory Council (NAC) of the American Judicature Society (AJS). He is also a member of AJS's Amicus Committee, which is charged with analyzing and screening amicus brief submissions sought from or made by AJS in the Supreme Court of the United States and other appellate courts.

An active participant in community activities outside of the legal profession, Mr. Miller is a member of the Board of Directors (since 2009) of Amanda the Panda, a past President of the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association (from 2003-2009), and a 2008 graduate of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute.

"Bill is a prime example of what a Forty Under 40 lawyer embodies," noted Ken Cutler, Managing Partner of Dorsey & Whitney. "He is extraordinarily talented, compassionate and committed to Dorsey's core values. We are extremely proud of his achievements and of this recognition."

Each year, the Business Record asks past award winners to choose 40 leaders younger than 40 who already have accomplished much in their professional lives while giving back to the community. Together, they join 560 past Business Record Forty Under 40 honorees to bring the total number of honorees to 600 since the Business Record began the awards in 2000.

Each of the honorees will be profiled in the March 7 edition of the Business Record and be recognized at an event on March 11.
