BRIEF: Foundation names new director [The Pueblo Chieftain, Colo. :: ]

(Pueblo Chieftain (CO) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jan. 24--Pueblo Community College has a new director to run the school's foundation.

Martha Simmons has been named executive director of the PCC Foundation, replacing Diane Porter, who will retire at the end of the month.

Simmons is the daughter of the late Pueblo Junior College head basketball coach Harry Simmons, better known as "The Chief." She used what is now the PCC campus as a playground while her father was busy coaching.

"Her ties to the institution are second only to her experience and the outstanding skills she brings to the job," said PCC President Patty Erjavec.

"We are pleased to have Martha onboard as we work to move the institution forward." Simmons graduated from Pueblo East High School in 1973 before departing for Fort Collins, where she earned a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University in 1977. She then forged a career mostly in the world of nonprofit organizations, but it also included owning a business and being heavily involved in marketing and public relations.

Simmons said her first order of business is to work with her staff to plan the Pueblo Hall of Fame Banquet scheduled March 7 in PCC's Fortino Ballroom.
