EY comments on protection for consumers against unexpected mid-contract price rises

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Adrian Baschnonga, Lead Analyst for Global Telecommunications at EY, said: "This announcement from Ofcom is good news for consumers, who have been unhappy about unexpected price hikes introduced in the middle of fixed-price contracts.

"However, while price increases have been evident in recent months, household bills for telecoms services have remained stable over the last ten years, compared to other sectors. At the same time, consumers are generally positive on the overall ease of switching suppliers or altering service options. EY research shows that just 15% of UK households believe it is complicated to upgrade or downgrade their broadband package with their current provider, while less than 1 in 4 believe it is complicated to change their broadband provider.

"Nevertheless, consumers' cost consciousness is a given, with 61% of UK households agreeing that taking a bundle package is important to save costs, for example. In this light, more transparent communications from service providers around pricing will certainly be welcomed by end users, whether consumers or small businesses."
