Breakthroughs in Instinct-Based Learning Announced by Kathy Kolbe(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) January 22, 2014 More than 100 Arizona leaders and educators will participate in a symposium today to discuss the benefits of an instinct-based learning model developed by Arizona researcher and best-selling author Kathy Kolbe. Sponsored by the Arizona Community Foundation, the symposium will feature presentations on successful case studies by keynote speaker and Kansas State Commissioner of Education Dr. Diane DeBacker, and other educators. Kolbe, author of the book Conative Connection and the founder of Phoenix-based Kolbe Corp, is the recognized leader in research on the instinct-driven part of the mind. DeBacker will discuss how Kansas schools are successfully using the instinct-based education model that Kolbe developed. Both Kolbe (602-952-0707) and DeBacker will be available for interviews during the day on Thursday. “Building on the instinctive strengths of students is the missing ingredient in today’s classrooms,” Kolbe said. “Instincts drive all actions, reactions and interactions – including individuals’ modes of learning. For example, some kids react positively to repetition of information, while others tune out. Some kids actively add to discussions, others sit silently. “Instinct-based education requires understanding the natural impulses that drive how each student learns best, and providing options that help them learn to trust those instincts.” Also participating in the symposium will be education leaders from around the state, including Dr. Kim Lansdowne and Bret Loucks from the Gary K. Herberger Young Scholars Academy at ASU, and Dr. Thomas Seager from the School of Sustainable Engineering at ASU. The symposium will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Arizona Community Foundation in the Debbi Bisgrove Community Philanthropy Center, 2201 E. Camelback Road.
