(Peninsula, The (Qatar) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) DOHA: Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Maersk Oil have partnered to publish a series of new technical papers and presentations for the 7th International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) taking place in Doha this week.
The 14 co-authored submissions highlight a range of technical learning and experience gained through more than 20 years of successfully developing Qatar's Al Shaheen field. The technical papers provide insights into the experience and application of innovative technologies that have enabled the transformation of Al Shaheen, from what was considered a marginal and unattractive field, into Qatar's largest offshore oil producer.
Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, QP's Director of Oil and Gas Ventures and Co-Chairman of the IPTC 2014 Executive Committee, said: "Qatar Petroleum and Maersk Oil have built and shared knowledge since the early 1990s and together we now produce over one-third of Qatar's daily oil production. The IPTC offers a global platform for us to share our expertise with the broader industry, and to show how even complex fields like Al Shaheen can be developed by leveraging knowledge and experience, working together and applying the right technologies and development plans." The QP and Maersk Oil technical papers provide a snapshot of some of the breakthroughs in seismic studies, horizontal drilling and 3D scanning technology that are helping to enhance their understanding of the Al Shaheen field. In total, Maersk Oil will be presenting 18 technical papers at the IPTC, several of which focus on the ground-breaking applied research being conducted at the Maersk Oil Research and Technology Centre (MO-RTC) in Doha, Qatar. Jakob Thomasen, Maersk Oil's Chief Executive Officer, said: "Qatar Petroleum's expertise has been crucial in the successful development of the Al Shaheen, so I am delighted that QP and Maersk Oil experts have co-authored these papers. "By working closely together with QP for the past twenty years, Maersk Oil has become specialists in Al Shaheen, developing a unique understanding of its reservoirs and how to responsibly maximise long-term oil recovery. Technology will be just as important in the future as it has been in the past and we look forward to discovering, developing and applying more technologies with our partner QP." The Peninsula
