Delta Dental of Tennessee Becomes the First Corporate Sponsor of Tennessee Big Brothers Big Sisters Alliance

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --(Business Wire)--

Delta Dental of Tennessee has presented a $15,000 investment to the Tennessee Big Brothers Big Sisters Alliance today in support of this statewide initiative helping mentor children across the state.

This statewide association is a collaboration between Big Brothers Big Sisters chapters in Nashville, Clarksville, Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Memphis all seeking to work together in administering large scale programs providing children facing adversity with a mentor.

This Alliance was formed when the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services granted the initialMentoring Children of Prisoners grant seven years ago creating the Amachi program in Tennessee serving children with incarcerated parents. Since then, other governmental agencies have followed with financial support, but this donation by Delta Dental of Tennessee represents the first corporate investor in the Alliance.

"Everyone with Big Brothers Big Sisters state wide applauds the vision of Delta Dental of Tennessee to support and positively impact the lives of children across our state," said Mary E. Walker, Chairperson of the Alliance. Walker also serves as Vice President of Programs for the Middle Tennessee affiliate. She continued, "We are also so glad that Delta Dental has chosen to announce this investment during National Mentoring Month when folks all across the country are doing what they can to support mentoring."

In addition to the funding, Delta Dental of Tennessee is providing toothbrushes to children in the Big Brothers Big Sisters programs next month in honor of National Children's Dental Health Month. Volunteers who serve as Big Brothers and Big Sisters to children in the program encourage many healthy habits such as proper nutrition, exercise, and oral hygiene through their involvement in their Little Brother or Sister's lives.

Big Brothers Big Sisters improves children's chances for succeeding in school, behaving nonviolently, avoiding drugs and alcohol, and breaking negative cycles. Delta Dental is passionate about oral health and its importance to future generations.
