Smart Monitor Wins Everyday Health Award for Innovation in Digital Health at 2014 International CES

SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Smart Monitor, Corp., an innovative monitoring solutions provider for the healthcare and wellness markets, announced that its SmartWatch® product was named a winner in the Everyday Health Awards for Innovation in Digital Health at the 2014 International CES (News - Alert) in Las Vegas. The SmartWatch took top honors in the Patient Diagnostics and Management category, which recognizes the best innovative digital health technologies that are revolutionizing the practice of patient care.

Winners were announced January 9 during a special live award ceremony at the Digital Health Summit at CES.

"We are thrilled that our SmartWatch wearable device has been recognized for the autonomy and peace of mind it brings to people prone to seizures, as well as their families," said Anoo Nathan, CEO of Smart Monitor. "We are especially grateful to the many SmartWatch users, epilepsy community members, and other supporters who voted online for the SmartWatch. Thir support is a key reason we were honored with this Everyday Health award."

SmartWatch is a patented and non-invasive wristwatch that continuously monitors the user and instantly alerts family members and caregivers at the onset of abnormal movement patterns. When the SmartWatch detects repetitive shaking motion, it signals the user's Bluetooth-connected Android (News - Alert) phone to send text and phone call alerts to designated contacts.

While SmartWatch was initially developed for people prone to seizures, the device's activity monitoring and reporting capabilities can be highly valuable in several other settings, including hospitals, skilled nursing/assisted living facilities and independent living/home health care environments.

"Events such as falls and adverse drug reactions are a daily concern for anyone providing care to elders or people managing chronic conditions such as epilepsy or Parkinson's," said Nathan. "SmartWatch combines timely alerts and real-time data analytics that healthcare providers need to reduce these incidents, while also providing peace of mind for family and loved ones." Nathan also added that the comprehensive analytics SmartWatch provides make it useful for clinical studies, especially those tracking the efficacy of drugs or devices for reducing convulsive motions caused by epilepsy or other disorders.

The Everyday Health Awards for Innovation honor individuals, companies or organizations that are utilizing technology to design and engineer innovative products or services that help people or patients achieve better health outcomes, every day.
