Telecommunications minister urges renunciation of hatred and disunity [Bahrain News Agency]


(Bahrain News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Manama, Jan11(BNA)Internet and social media users have today been urged to heed the royal directives and respect international law and conventions.

Minister of State for Telecommunications Affairs Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa urged users to renounce religious and sectarian hatred and put the national interest above all other political, ideological and personal conflicts.

He was speaking as he met a group of social media users in the presence of Public Security Chief Major-General Tariq Hassan Al-Hassan.

The minister stressed the importance of strengthening tolerance and peaceful co-existence and consolidating national unity – being the safety net to continue the march of political reforms as well as economic and social development.

He urged internet users to be aware of the potential danger of "words" posted online on national security, stability, public order and community bonds.

He urged commitment to public decency in posting opinions and information online, stressing the need to avoid cyber libels, defamation, lies and misinformation.

He stressed the resolve of the Electronic Safety Directorate to monitor any violations which may fuel sectarian strife and threaten security and community peace online.



He said that that the law would be enforced on advocates of seditions and rumors, warning that tough legal action would be taken against fake or hostile accounts and sites which are adamant on inciting on hatred, violence and social strife or misusing modern technologies in to commit fraudulent acts, cheating, economic and IT crimes.

The minister expressed confidence in Bahrainis' awareness and ability to realize the dangers of current regional and international challenges.


He stressed the need to build mutual trust, promote dialogue and national consensus and discuss key national issues in total credibility and responsibility.

He also underscored the importance of shunning instigative and divisive calls which are alien to peace-loving and tolerant Bahraini society.
