Training Funds Committed to Nampa, Twin Falls Businesses(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BOISE, Idaho, Jan. 10 -- The Idaho Department of Labor issued the following news release: Two Idaho manufacturers have received a commitment from the Idaho Department of Labor for up to $213,000 in Workforce Development Training Funds to train 76 workers for new jobs. Electronics manufacturer Plexus Corp. in Nampa has a commitment for up to $156,858 to train workers for 69 new jobs that pay between $13.40 and $38 an hour. The company will be reimbursed for training in electrostatic discharge and TL 9000 Quality Concepts among other areas. Training costs will average nearly $2,300 per employee. Additional company expansion plans include increasing the size of its cleanroom facility and upgrading specialized manufacturing equipment. Solo Cup Co., which makes plastic cutlery and straws in Twin Falls, will receive up to $56,700 to train four new workers and improve the skills of eight others who would otherwise face layoffs. The jobs are maintenance mechanics and production leads with wages averaging $15 to $16 an hour. Solo Cup, a subsidiary of Dart Container Corp., is expanding its molding department in response to changes in market demand for certain product lines. The training, which will average over $4,700 per worker, involves new molding equipment and processes. Idaho's Workforce Development Training Fund is financed by employers through a 3 percent setaside on unemployment insurance taxes. Employers are reimbursed for the costs of training employees for new jobs if the jobs pay at least $12 an hour and include employer-provided health care. Reimbursements can also be made for training workers who face layoff from their current jobs if their skills are not upgraded. To be eligible, companies must produce a product or service that is marketed outside their region of operation or be in the health care sector. Since its inception in 1996, the fund has reimbursed 200 companies over $38 million for training almost 20,000 workers.
