Cape Mount Approves $100,000 for Agriculture

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Authorities of Grand Cape Mount County have approved a US$100,000 for agriculture activities in 2014, an official has disclosed.

The Chairman of the Grand Cape Mount County Project Management Committee (PMC), Mr. Varney Pusah made the disclosure told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) recently in Sinje Town, Garwula Statutory District.

He said the leadership of the county has decided to engage in agriculture to enable citizens produce more food to buttress government's self-sufficiency in food drive.

According to Chairman Pusah, the agriculture budget will be supported from the County and Social Development Funds.

The County Development Fund is an allocation in the National Budget for counties to undertake development projects, while the Social Development Fund constitutes corporate social responsibility contributions paid by concessions operating in the counties.

Pusah noted that ending hunger in Liberia should not be the responsibility of the government alone, but should claim the full participation of all Liberians.

He said all districts in the county will benefit from the agriculture budget for projects they will submit for approval by the County Council, comprising representation from all the districts.
