Australian Innovation comes to India(Update: Australian Innovation) [Asian News International]


(Asian News International Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) New Delhi, Nov.11 (ANI): Some of Australia's top researchers, academics and scientists were present today to launch Australia's first Innovation Showcase across India.

The Australia Innovation Showcase will bring the largest ever group of Australian researchers and academics to visit India. It will also demonstrate Australia's world class research, innovation and technological credentials to leading figures within industry in India.

The showcase was launched by Australia's High Commissioner to India, Mr Patrick Suckling.

"The Australia Innovation Showcase will show why Australia is a perfect partner for India when it comes to cutting edge research" said Mr. Suckling.


The program of events over one month will highlight Australian research and technology in knowledge-based industries where Australia has a competitive world class offering including information technology, biotechnology and life-sciences, materials science for advanced manufacturing and energy efficiency.

Australia will be represented by more than 30 senior personnel and researchers from Australia's universities including Melbourne University, University of New South Wales, University of Sydney, Deakin University, Monash University, University of Wollongong, Flinders University and key Australian research bodies including National ICT Australia (NICTA), the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), the Cancer Therapeutic Co-operative Research Centre, and Neurosciences Victoria.

"This is the largest concentration of Australian scientific and research know-how to be showcased in India, and the interest from India's major commercial entities and research agencies has been overwhelming," said New Delhi based Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner Nicola Watkinson.

"Australia's research institutions, universities and technology companies are among the best in the world. They offer significant potential for partnerships. Australia's advanced innovation framework, along with government and business investment in research and development and a track record of world-class discoveries and outcomes, present strong collaboration, research and commercialisation opportunities for India," said Mr Suckling.

From 11 November to 4 December, workshops, seminars, roundtables and opportunities to meet with some of Australia's leading researchers will be held across key cities including Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune.

"We invite interested Indian companies to contact us to see how they can work with Australia to enhance their competitiveness through technology driven partnerships" said Ms Watkinson.

Speaking about the Australian Innovation Showcase 2013, Ms Nicola Watkinson, Austrade's Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for South Asia, said "Innovation is the key to build sustainable businesses, to unlock competitive advantage and increase productivity and profitability."
