BRIEF: CSUS recruits small business owners who need free help [The Sacramento Bee]

(Sacramento Bee (CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 28--Wanted: Small business owners who need help starting or expanding their company. The CSUS Center for Small Business is now accepting applications from small companies that need assistance with market research, advertising, business plans, financial management, web design, human resources and other management issues.

Under the program, which starts this fall semester, each company owner is paired with an undergraduate student, who works under the guidance of a CSUS business school faculty member. Students analyze the individual company's problems and devise solutions. The program cannot help with legal, tax or loan packaging issues.

The center will handle about 100 companies this fall semester. Typically, companies that apply are small firms with fewer than 20 employees and that can't afford expensive professional assistance.

To apply, contact the CSUS Center for Small Business at (916) 278-7278 or go to: www.cba.csus.edu/csb/ Since launching the program in 1968, the center has served more than 3,000 small businesses in the Sacramento region.
