Marvell powers China Mobile's self-branded smartphone

Aug 19, 2013 (MarketLine via COMTEX) -- Marvell Technology Group, Ltd., a producer of storage, communications and consumer semiconductor products, has announced that China Mobile's first self-branded smartphone, the Android-based M601, is powered by the Marvell ARMADA Mobile PXA988 unified 3G platform.

The Marvell PXA988 platform is designed to deliver high-performance computing with industry-leading graphics capabilities and best-in-class, robust connectivity, enabling a high-performance, cost-effective, Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) mobile device for China Mobile's 720 million subscribers.

"I am very pleased to see the launch of China Mobile's first self-branded smartphone, which is a major milestone for China Mobile and over a billion consumers in China. In the past several years, we have seen the fast development of China's 3G TD-SCDMA technology and the rapid growth of the smartphone market, thanks to the close collaboration among China Mobile and global companies, such as Samsung, ZTE, Yulong Coolpad, Lenovo and others," said Weili Dai, president and co-founder of Marvell.

"I am very proud of our collaboration with China Mobile and Marvell's investment in developing advanced TD-SCDMA technology. I am very thankful for the innovation, dedication and contributions made by the China Mobile and Marvell global engineering teams," Weili Dai added.

"China Mobile has remained committed to promoting the development of the TD-SCDMA industry. In this mobile Internet era, we will continue to provide more mobile internet services to meet our customers' demands," said Mr Tang Jianfeng, Assistant General Manager of China Mobile Group Devices. "As a partner of China Mobile, Marvell has closely collaborated with us in the TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE markets. Marvell has made strong progress in TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE chip technology, and we look forward to seeing Marvell continue to deliver successful TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE products in the future." As part of Marvell's unified mobile 3G and LTE platform family, the ARMADA Mobile PXA988 is a mass market, single-chip solution that integrates a high-performance, low-power 1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 application processor with cutting-edge cellular modems to support advanced multimedia and graphics capabilities consumers demand for their mobile devices, Marvell reported.

The PXA988 also features: a Time Division High Speed Packet Access+ (TD-HSPA+) R8 modem; Marvell's latest wireless connectivity technology (Wi-Fi + Bluetooth + FM radio + GPS); RF transceivers; and integrated power management and audio codec solutions.
