DOE NNSA IARC Receives CNDSP Authorization

ARLINGTON, Va., July 31, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- OnPoint Consulting, Inc., today announced that the Department of Energy's (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Information Assurance Response Center (IARC) became only the second federal civilian, non-Department of Defense (DOD), provider to receive a Computer Network Defense Services Provider (CNDSP) authorization. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) conducted the inspection, and the NNSA granted authorization. IARC provides cybersecurity services, including incident management, incident response, and security monitoring services for the NNSA's classified enterprise networks, comprising over 50 enclaves. IARC's CNDSP status allows for the NNSA, DOE, and contractor locations to maintain mission-critical interconnection to the Department of Defense's (DoD) Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNet). DoD established the CNDSP program in 2001 through the Computer Network Defense (CND) directive DoDD-O-8530.1. The CNDSP Program "establishes policy, assigns responsibilities, and prescribes procedures for the implementation, provisioning, conduct, and sustainment of cyber defense and defensive cyber services for DoD information networks and information systems (ISs)."i Shankar Pillai, OnPoint Consulting's President, stated that "CNDSP authorization is a great achievement for the IARC and NNSA, and it is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the many talented cyber specialists we have working on the contract. We continue to focus on how to improve the enterprise cybersecurity posture and increase situational awareness and to provide dynamic cyber solutions that create value for our clients." In order to maintain its authorization, OnPoint has built a CNDSP Program committed to increasing OnPoint's role within the DOE as an industry-leading cybersecurity organization. The team will institutionalize the CNDSP within DOE/NNSA through formalized processes, procedures, policies and budgets. This authorization will solidify the IARC as a Center of Excellence for DOE/NNSA to provide enterprise- and local-level situational awareness and cybersecurity services as well as position the IARC as a leading and valued contributor within the US Government cybersecurity community.
