Radiant Zemax Debuts Zemax 13 Release 2 - Innovations in Optical and Illumination Design Software

Radiant Zemax on July 23 released Zemax 13 Release 2, continuing the development of its industry standard software for optical and illumination design.
According to a release, Zemax 13 Release 2 delivers a competitive advantage with design, simulation and optimization capabilities plus proprietary features that improve accuracy, performance and reduce time-to-innovation.
"More than 70 new features, enhancements and performance improvements have been added to Zemax in 2013," said Paul Caragher, chief executive officer at Radiant Zemax. "Optical and illumination design professionals require an expanding set of tools to quickly move designs from drawing board to production. At Radiant Zemax, we are actively investing in Zemax product development to provide the breadth and depth of capabilities needed to meet any optical and illumination design challenge."
Radiant Zemax said the Stock Lens Matching Tool quickly finds the best commercially available lens for your design. Choose from more than 30 stock lens catalogs for design match analysis. Identify key system constraints such as lens diameter and focal length and easily convert custom design lenses into the best commercial equivalent with a single click.

Bidirectional Scatter Distribution Function (BSDF) Material Model Library
Unsurpassed simulation accuracy. Eliminate errors caused when estimating material scatter coefficients with the comprehensive library of measured BSDF scatter models. Choose from a wide array of engineering materials or quickly evaluate new materials by simply loading the scatter models.
Non-Sequential Source Diffractive Tool
Accurately model diffraction in micro-optic systems and account for diffractive effects according to Fraunhofer diffraction theory in illumination from micro-optic apertures, mirrors and other small optical components.
Grid Gradient Index for Non-Sequential Analysis
The Grid Gradient Index model in NSC defines optical material properties in three dimensions for precise analysis, is ideal for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and easily uses measured data.

It adds dynamic CAD interchange with SolidWorks, Creo Parametric and Autodesk Inventor to edit parts and assemblies as if they were native, built-in Zemax objects. LightningTrace allows fast approximate modeling of illumination systems and fully supports optimization and tolerancing. Advanced Path Analysis identifies all the paths stray light may take.
