TIA Applauds FCC for Taking Steps to Modernize E-Rate Program

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ARLINGTON, V.A., July 19 -- The Telecommunications Industry Association issued the following news release: The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today applauded the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for taking steps toward modernizing the FCC's Schools and Libraries program, also as the E-rate program, to support high-speed broadband for digital learning technologies.

"E-rate has been making advanced telecommunications technology tools more broadly available since its creation in 1996," said Grant Seiffert, TIA President. "Students and library users who might not have had access to broadband received it only because of E-rate. The FCC deserves credit for looking for ways to refresh the program as technology evolves."
