BRIEF: Overnight fire destroys apartment unitJun 26, 2013 (Odessa American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A fire destroyed an apartment unit and damaged another Tuesday night at Acacia Apartments, 4775 Oakwood Drive. Battalion Chief Kevin Tinney said Odessa Fire and Rescue dispatched at 11:14 p.m. and the battalion chief on duty observed heavy smoke and fire coming out of apartment 714. The fire spread to apartment 712 and Tinney said he would assume that it sustained some damage but that unit 714 was a total loss. No injuries were reported from the fire. Tinney said it took firefighters between 20-25 minutes to "knock down the fire" but they remained on scene for at least two and a half hours checking for smoldering areas, doing carbon monoxide checks and making sure it was safe for other residents in the building to go back in their units.
