It's Farmers' Market season

JOSEPH, May 22, 2013 (The Observer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Wallowa County Farmers' Market launches the 2013 season with its traditional Spring Planting Festival Saturday in downtown Joseph.

Vendors will have vegetable and ornamental plants for sale as well as local produce, baked goods and crafts. The market is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Main and Joseph streets.

There will be cooking demonstrations and children's activities including a petting zoo as well as a seed swap. Market-goers are encouraged to bring garden seeds to exchange, enabling gardeners to find the seeds they've been looking for and share excess seeds with others.

The Saturday market in Joseph will continue through Oct. 12, except for the weekends of Chief Joseph Days and the Bronze Bike Rendezvous.

In Enterprise, the Thursday market on the Wallowa County Courthouse lawn opens June 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and runs through Sept. 19. All markets gladly accept SNAP/EBT.

The market is always looking for new vendors. Potential vendors should contact Market Manager Janie Webster for more information at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or 541-263-1622.

A greatly expanded schedule of special events including performances from the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance's Courthouse Concert Series can be found at www.wallowacountyfarmersmarket.com.
