Amplidata Spotlights New Digital Storytelling Options Made Possible by Latest Cloud Storage Solutions at NAB 2013

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. & LOCHRISTI, Belgium --(Business Wire)--

Amplidata, an innovator in Unbreakable Cloud Storage solutions, will spotlight new capabilities and efficiencies for the latest film and video formats such as 3D high-frame rate digital cinema made possible by the latest storage technology - and what it means for the next generation of digital storytellers - at NAB 2013 in Las Vegas next week.

At the Cloud Computing Conference on Monday, April 9, Amplidata's (News - Alert) Mike Wall, CEO, will discuss the ways that a new class of cloud storage systems are enabling film and video makers to overcome traditional storage constraints with advanced entertainment technologies such as 3D high frame rate video, digital cinema and 4K capture. During the panel discussion on "Cloud-Based Multimedia Storage," on Monday, April 9 at 2:30 pm PT, Wall will review the demands placed on data centers that must store this avalanche of data - greater than 8x more data for a 2-hour 3D movie - and the challenges in assuring the highest levels of durability, scalability and efficiency while allowing real-time access to geographically dispersed teams of collaborators. Wall will discuss how software advances enable commercially available, off the shelf systems to infinitely scale to meet next-generation media productions using 48 fps, 60 fps or 120 fps formats that are significantly more cost effective than traditional RAID-based (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) systems.

Sparately at the NAB Exhibition in Amplidata's booth (South Lower #SL 13916), Amplidata will demonstrate new technology for the AmpliStor® unbreakable cloud storage solution that is ideal for today and future digital cinema production needs. These include a media gateway that allows studios to quickly ingest production files, and then securely share them with geo-dispersed post-production teams using standard file access protocols. With local caching and direct-connect for workstations, the solution provides post-production editors with an ultra-low latency path for the most demanding applications. The cloud storage solution leverages Amplidata's patented BitSpread® and BitDynamics® technologies, providing the highest levels of durability and efficiency. Greater than 15-nines durability is possible by spreading data geographically and provides the ability to tolerate multiple failures with virtually no impact to system performance.

Amplidata's booth also will showcase the additional performance, security and ease of integration made possible with the latest release of the AmpliStor software. These include an overall performance boost made possible with new support for the latest Intel (News - Alert)® Xeon® E5 processors, and a 15x performance boost to small file throughput. The new software further enhances encryption for the REST API, and adds an Amazon S3 - compatible API.

"It's entirely possible to deliver these long sought-after exciting new entertainment formats and not go broke on the storage they require as capacity demands reach into the 10s of Petabytes per film," said Mike Wall, CEO of Amplidata. "We look forward to showcasing the work that entertainment industry leaders are doing today with cloud storage, and the path being charted toward significantly higher efficiency and overall cost effectiveness."
