Upgrade aims to help the environment


Apr 01, 2013 (The Sydney Morning Herald - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Australian Government departments and agencies are combining their cyclical IT upgrades with measures to boost sustainability and reach targets for reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The number of desktop PCs per staff members will be lowered to 1.2 by 2015, while more than nine tenths of all hardware should be powered off for the night to save energy. The Australian Taxation Office is upgrading the operating system on 20,000-plus PCs, while the Department of Education, Employment &Workplace Relations will shed over 1,000 computers and the Department of Human Services will replace 30,000.
