Thousands of Volunteers in the Midwest Packaged 1,105,272 Meals for Starving Children last weekend!

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Friday's snowstorm did not stop passionate volunteers from making a difference in the movement to end hunger.

Over the weekend of February 22nd-24th, the third annual Drive To Serve community service event sponsored by the Luther Family of Dealerships brought together an estimated 3,000 volunteers to package 1,105,272 nutritious, vitamin fortified meals for Stop Hunger Now. That is enough meals to feed 3,028 hungry children for a year! These meals will be fed in school lunch programs and save lives in developing countries around the world.

For each bag of Stop Hunger Now food packaged by volunteers, Luther Automotive pledged to donate 25 cents to Emergency Foodshelf Network, Luther Automotive's local hunger relief partner for this event. The enormous dedication of thousands of volunteers brought together by this event will result in a donation of $46,053 to Emergency Foodshelf Network, which will feed an additional 92,106 hungry people in America. Volunteers also brought 1,952 pounds of non-perishable food items that were donated to Emergency Foodshelf Network.

The Drive to Serve community service event was a success thanks to the hard work of volunteers, event sponsors, and community members who generously donated their time and resources to work side by side to assemble life-saving meals. That hard work will make a real difference in the lives of 1,200,000 people that won't be going to bed hungry.
