Australia : NBN fixed wireless for Gympie and the Sunshine Coast [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, and Senator for Queensland, Senator Claire Moore, today welcomed the announcement that planning has started to connect local communities in the Gympie and Sunshine Coast area to the National Broadband Network (NBN).

People in communities across the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Gympie Regional Council areas will have access to fast, reliable and affordable broadband, with homes and businesses expected to be switched on in stages from late 2014.

In more good news for local residents, people using the NBN's fixed wireless and long-term satellite services will now have access to speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.

"This means that through the NBN, everyone in Australia will have access to faster speeds than are currently available on ADSL2+ in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney.

"This is a quantum leap in broadband services for regional, rural and remote Australia. It is part of the $15 billion the Gillard Government is spending to improve telecommunications in regional Australia through the NBN.

"This is providing better broadband than regional Australia has ever had before.

"The government's uniform national wholesale price policy also means people living in and around Gympie and the Sunshine Coast will pay the same prices for NBN services as people in our capital cities. NBN plans are cheaper than or the equivalent of what people are paying today, but for a superior and much more reliable service." Senator Claire Moore welcomed the news that communities in Gympie and the Sunshine Coast will have access to fast and reliable broadband well before many communities around Australia.

"This is fantastic news for the people living in these communities," Senator Moore said. "The NBN will change the way we live and work here and I am very excited by the progress we'll see on the ground over the coming months.

"The recent announcement that everyone will have access to faster broadband than people get on the copper network today means that people who don't live in Brisbane can start accessing services that can really help overcome the tyranny of distance services like telehealth and distance education using high-definition video conferencing.

"This is a truly exciting time for families and businesses who want to get online in regional and rural Australia. Like water and electricity, the Gillard Government sees fast broadband as an essential utility that should be made available to all Australians.

"The choice this election year is clear vote Labor and you'll get the NBN; vote for Tony Abbott and Alex Somlyay and you won't." (c) 2013 Euclid Infotech Pvt. Ltd. Provided by an company
