Poster contest winners announced


Feb 25, 2013 (Bladen Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts sponsors poster, essay, public speaking and computer-generated slide show contests at District, Area and State levels. These contests provide students in third through eighth grades opportunities to become aware of and share their concerns for soil and water conservation.



Bladen Soil and Water Conservation District recently announced this year's District (Bladen County) winners who will go on to Area VII competition. Area VII consists of nine Districts; Area winners advance to state competition.

Judges for the Bladen Soil and Water District contest were Shirley Britt and Wanda Smith of Farm Services Agency, and Rhea Hebert of Bladen County Library.


The first- and second-place winners, teachers, judges and other guests will be recognized at an awards luncheon in April.

The local winners were: -- Computer Designed Slide Show (sixth grade): first place, Robbie Cooley of Clarkton School of Discovery; second place, Jacob Kinlaw of Bladenboro Middle School.

-- Public Speaking (seventh grade): first place, Ashley Aguilar of Clarkton School of Discovery.

-- Public Speaking (eighth grade): first place, Ja'Meon Brown of Clarkton School of Discovery.

-- Essay (sixth grade): first place, Haley Hester, Bladenboro Middle School; second place Shyante Boler of Elizabethtown Middle School.

-- Poster (third grade): first place, Isaac Parameno of Plain View Primary School; second place, Heather Hardin of Elizabethtown Primary School.

-- Poster (fourth grade): first place, Landon Watts of Bladen Lakes Primary School; second place, Atje Salvador of Plain View Primary School.

-- Poster (fifth grade): first place, Jocephus Jones of Booker T. Washington Primary School; second place, Logan West of Bladenboro Middle School.

-- Poster (sixth grade): first place, Ashley Hardin of Clarkton School of Discovery; second place, Elsy Sanchez of Elizabethtown Middle School.
