Nokia unveils affordable WP8 phones Lumia 720, 520 [Gadgets Special] [Times of India]


(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW DELHI: Nokia today added two affordable smartphones running on Microsoft Windows Phone 8 platform to its portfolio, along with two feature phones. The Finnish manufacturer announced the Lumia 720, Lumia 520, Nokia 105 and Nokia 301 at Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona.



The all-new Lumia 520 comes with a 4-inch LCD IPS touchscreen and is powered by a 1GHZ dual-core processor. The phone comes with 8GB built-in memory and can support microSD cards with capacities ranging up to 64GB. The camera sensor in Lumia 520 is rated at 5MP and can shoot videos at 720p resolution, but has no rear LED flash or a front facing camera. It is powered by a 1,430mAh battery, comes with swappable back covers, and is priced at 139 euros Nokia Lumia 720 features a 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen with ClearBlack Display technology. This display is extremely touch-sensitive and can be operated even when users are wearing gloves. It has 8GB internal memory, 7GB free SkyDrive storage and microSD support up to 64GB. It has a 6.7MP Carl Zeiss camera with LED flash on the back, and a 1.3MP unit in the front. Boasting of unibody design, this phone has 2,000mAh battery, wireless charging and NFC. Nokia said Lumia 720 will be launched in India in the second quarter of this year and will cost 249 euros worldwide.

The two smartphones will have imaging features like Cinemagraph, Panorama, PhotShoot and PhotoBeamer. The company also extended its location and mapping service Here to Lumia 720 as well as 520 and said that this platform will soon be made available to Windows Phone-powered devices made by other companies.


Nokia 105 has a 1.5-inch screen and an alphanumeric keypad and is water- as well as dust-proof. Other features of this device are colour display panel, flashlight, FM radio, reminder application and an 800mAh battery that Nokia says runs for up to 35 days on a single charge. Nokia 301 runs on Symbian S40 operating system and comes preloaded with apps like Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp. This phone has a 2.4-inch display with resolution of 320x240p, 3.2MP rear camera, 256MB internal memory, 32GB microSD card support. Nokia 301 will hit the market in single as well as dual-sim versions, offer standby time of 39 days and have connectivity features like 3G, 2G and Slam.
