Alpha Networks Launches Leading WCDMA and Wi-Fi Small Cell Platform featuring Qualcomm Technologies' and Qualcomm Atheros' UltraSON Technology

HSINCHU, Taiwan, Feb 26, 2013 (PR Newswire Europe via COMTEX) -- Alpha Networks [http://www.alphanetworks.com/] Inc. (TAIEX: 3380), a global leader in the networking DMS industry, is proud to announce the WHU-FAP10 WCDMA and Wi-Fi Small Cell. This newest small cell product from Alpha Networks incorporates UltraSON(TM) self-organizing network technology provided by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Qualcomm Atheros, Inc., subsidiaries of Qualcomm Incorporated. This technology is designed to augment network capacity and coverage through densification of WCDMA small cells, thereby enhancing the end-user experience.

With users consuming increasing levels of bandwidth and causing insufficient network capacity, resulting in weak signals and signal interference, global telecommunication carriers are actively expanding mobile network infrastructure to address these growing demands. Using the UltraSON solution, Alpha Networks delivers the WHU-FAP10 product, which integrates WCDMA and Wi-Fi into a single Access Point device that provides data off-load from the macro network to localized small cells. The WHU-FAP10 is ready for operator trials.

UltraSON features a suite of capabilities that support interference and mobility management. UltraSON power management is designed to allow each Femtocell to adapt its transmitted power to the RF environment, enabling good coverage and minimizing signal pollution. UltraSON's resource and interference management is crucial to the improvement of the user experience by coordinating with the macro cells, balancing the traffic load and partitioning the resource among multiple Femtocells.

"We are pleased to enable Alpha Networks with our advanced small cell technologies," said Dan Rabinovitsj, senior vice president and general manager, Qualcomm Atheros. "As more wireless operators employ small cells to ease the strain placed on their stretched cellular networks, we are pleased that Alpha Networks turned to Qualcomm Atheros and Qualcomm Technologies to enhance the performance of its new WHU-FAP10 platform." "In the past decade Alpha Networks has been sharing the in-depth insight from the global telecoms market, while continuously staying tight with current and future market trends. It is always the key competitive edge of Alpha to provide superior software and hardware designs jointly under one roof." - Harrison Chang, President of Alpha Networks.
