BRIEF: Tigers' Nick Castellanos playing in outfield for entire game today

Feb 25, 2013 (Detroit Free Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Nick Castellanos' burgeoning outfield career reaches another level this afternoon. He is due to play the entire game against the host Phillies in left field. It will be his first complete game in the outfield under the eyes of manager Jim Leyland and the big-league coaching staff.

Leyland said Castellanos is getting this opportunity because Andy Dirks didn't make the trip. Dirks missed Sunday's game with a rib-cage strain. Leyland said today that Dirks is fine.

The outfield is the only place for Castellanos to break into the Tigers' lineup in the foreseeable future because Miguel Cabrera plays third base and Prince Fielder plays first base, the only position Cabrera plays besides third base.

Castellanos is ranked as the Tigers' top prospect by Baseball America. There seems little if any question he will hit in the big leagues.
