Edison International Provides $25,000 for THINK Together Middle School Students in the Rialto Unified School District

Santa Ana, California, Feb 22, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- THINK Together students at five middle schools in the Rialto Unified School District will experience and even higher quality of academic support thanks to backing from Edison International.

Students will continue to receive academic support that includes homework help, academic interventions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and English Language Arts, physical fitness, nutrition education, and supplemental enrichment activities for three hours per day for 180 days.

"Edison International is a proud partner of THINK Together," said Tammy Tumbling, director of Philanthropy and Community Investment for Southern California Edison. "Jointly, Edison International and THINK Together are laying the groundwork for student empowerment and innovation. Our mutual support will enable students at these five Rialto middle schools to receive much-needed academic assistance through an afterschool program. Since 2009, Edison International has given more than $34 million to education programs that help students excel in science, technology, engineering and mathematics." To support and strengthen these efforts, THINK Together staff will receive bimonthly training and follow up field coaching. Additional materials and supplies will be provided to support the investigation and inquiry-based curricula.

Students will continue their progress in the Academy of Robotics program, which provides a complete installation of a mobile robotics laboratory specifically designed to teach students scientific and mathematical concepts through robotics and applied technology.

The Academy of Robotics program was first implemented in 2009 as a result of generous support from Edison International.

Also with support from Edison, the academic program incorporated the Totally Amazing Careers in Science curriculum by Sally Ride Science to inspire interest in STEM careers among the students.
