Aptina™ MobileHDR™ Technology and NVIDIA Chimera Computational Photography Architecture Deliver Enhanced Mobile Video and Still Capture Experience

SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Aptina announced today that its AR0833 mobile imaging sensor with MobileHDR technology has been selected by NVIDIA (News - Alert) to enable the NVIDIA® Chimera™ Computational Photography Architecture in the NVIDIA Tegra® 4 family, including Tegra 4 - the world's fastest mobile processor - and the new Tegra 4i - the first integrated Tegra LTE processor.

Aptina's leading-edge MobileHDR™ technology provides an outstanding high-dynamic range (HDR (News - Alert)) experience at sensor frame rates. The Tegra 4 and Tegra 4i processors utilize this capability in video and still imaging modes.

The Chimera architecture enables advanced computational photography capabilities in smartphones and tablets by fusing together the processing power of the CPU, GPU, ISP and imaging sensor. Device makers can dramatically enhance mobile imaging with a range of industry-first mobile features, including always-on HDR photos and videos, HDR panoramic and persistent tap-to-track capabilities.

"NVIDIA's Chimera architecture with our AR0833 sensor delivers mobile customers with an amazing photo and video experience," said John Gerard, Senior Director of Mobile Products at Aptina.

"Our Chimera architecture lets smartphone and tablet-makers create devices that can shoot HDR photos and videos like never before," said Glenn Schuster, Director of Technical Marketing in the Mobile Business at NVIDIA. "We're ecited to have Aptina's support for this ground-breaking technology."

Aptina's AR0833 image sensor with MobileHDR technology provides a robust solution for mobile OEMs looking for a high resolution and high dynamic range capability in an image sensor. MobileHDR technology is integrated into a number of Aptina's high-end current and future mobile products including the AR0835 (8MP), AR1230 (12MP), and the AR1330 (13MP).
