Chippewa County seeks $1.59 million bonding package

CHIPPEWA FALLS -- The Chippewa Falls City Council will vote at the March 5 meeting on a $1.59 million bonding package, while using $130,000 from land sale dollars to pay for other capital items not included in the bond plan.
The city's Revenue Committee recommended this week to approve bonding for a new ladder truck and ambulance for the fire department, along with new bathrooms and roads in Irvine Park. The Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the committee's recommendations, and will have a final vote on the bond next month.
The committee also recommended the Council disperse money from land sales, giving $37,752 to the police department, $75,000 to the library, $13,000 to parks and recreation, and $5,000 to the fire department.
The Council has chosen to use land sale dollars, rather than bonding, to purchase capital items for those departments.
The police department will be allowed to buy microphones, tasers, AR15 rifles, an evidence bar-coding system, video equipment for a squad, and a camera. The money for the fire department will be used to buy new protective coats and pants.
The money earmarked for the library will be used for replacing carpets and buying new office and public-use computers. The money for the parks department will be used to repair the tennis courts at Marshall Park.
In other news, the Council voted unanimously Tuesday to alter the conditional use permit for a portion of the Wissota Green subdivision in the northeast corner of the city.
The 22-acre parcel within the larger Wissota Green development -- located northeast of St. Joseph's Hospital -- would have 120 residential units, rather than 129 units, under the revised development plan. The subdivision is being renamed as Wissota Shores.
