BRIEF: LG unveils its largest smartphone yet, the 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro

Feb 19, 2013 (Los Angeles Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- LG's Optimus G Pro, a massive smartphone with a 5.5-inch screen, will reportedly make its way to North America as early as this spring.

The Optimus G Pro, which has the largest display LG has ever put on a phone, will feature a full HD 1080p resolution. The screen will have a 400-pixels-per-inch density, which is among the highest available on smartphones these days.

The phone will also feature an unusual "duel recording" mode for its cameras, which will have some of the highest resolution sensors to come on a smartphone. The rear camera features a 13-megapixel sensor while the front has 2.1-megapixel resolution.

Both shoot videos in full 1080p HD, and when "dual recording" is activated, users can record using both cameras at the same time. LG says this creates "a unique picture-in-picture experience." The upcoming LG phone runs on Android Jelly Bean and uses 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor. The phone has 32-gigabytes of storage that can be doubled using a microSD card.

The Optimus G Pro will launch in North America in the second quarter, LG said in a press event in South Korea, according to The Verge.
