AARP Free Tax Aide 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow and 8:15 a.m. to noon Wednesday to Friday. AARP volunteers offer free, confidential help with income taxes and Missouri Property Tax Credits to those with middle-to-low incomes, giving special attention to those aged 60 and older.

Drop-in Internet and Computer Assistance noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday. During these unstructured sessions, use library computers to apply for a job, write a resume, set up an email account, get help navigating the Internet, study for a test with LearningExpress Library or sharpen your computer skills with our self-guided tutorials. Basic Mac Skills 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday. This class will cover the basics of the Mac operating system for desktop and laptop users. Learn the essentials of using your Mac (through version 10.7 Lion), including Apple's integrated software for Internet browsing, email, music, photos, etc., and how to customize your computer to your needs. There also will be time to answer questions. Personal laptops are welcome but not required. Please register.

"This Terrible Struggle for Life" 7 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. Local author and Civil War historian Dennis Belcher will talk about his latest work, an edited collection of letters that gives insight into the history of the Civil War in the West through the eyes of a surgeon. In "This Terrible Struggle for Life: The Civil War Letters of a Union Regimental Surgeon," Thomas Hawley's letters describe his duties in various campaigns, interactions with captured Confederate soldiers and freed slaves, plus numerous accounts of other daily events. Copies will be available for purchase and signing.

Skype for Beginners 2:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Learn how to set up Skype, free software that allows you to make computer-to-computer video or voice calls to anywhere in the world and talk free for as long as you want. Basic computer knowledge and email account required. Please register.

Center Aisle Cinema: "The Pruitt-Igoe Myth" 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Destroyed in a dramatic and highly-publicized implosion, the Pruitt- Igoe public housing complex in St. Louis has become a widespread symbol of the failures of high-rise public housing amongst architects, politicians and policymakers. "The Pruitt-Igoe Myth" explores the social, economic and legislative issues that led to the decline of conventional public housing in America, and the city centers in which they were built, while tracing the personal and poignant narratives of several of the residents of the notorious Pruitt-Igoe complex. Director Chad Freidrichs will answer questions.

Facebook Fundamentals 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Learn how to set up a Facebook profile and use some of its features such as adding photos, making notes and sharing news with others while maintaining your personal security. How to Use Rules of Order 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Rules of order are a must in most meetings. Learn how to lead and participate in discussions using standard rules of parliamentary procedure.
