China Telecom Said to First Promote 4G Service in Key Cities

Feb 18, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- According to a report released by investment bank-Deutsche Bank, the management of China Telecom Corporation Limited (SEHK: 0728 and NYSE:CHA) stated that the company would firstly promote 4G service in key cities.

According to the report, the company will construct and open 4G service step by step. However, it has not been disclosed which kind of 4G system would be adopted.

As indicated in the report, the compatibility of China Telecom's CDMA network is weaker than that of China Unicom's WCDMA network and China Mobile's TD-SCDMA network. Plus that fact that China Telecom has fewer 3G base stations at present while China Mobile and China Unicom own hundreds of thousands of 3G base stations each, the operator may face more pressure in building 4G base stations.

The abovementioned investment bank anticipates that in order to catch up with China Mobile in future 4G service operation, China Telecom is expected to initiate the construction of 4G experimental network in 2013 and the scale of which may refer to the experimental network constructed by China Mobile in multiple cities in 2012.
