BRIEF: Snyder names new communications director

LANSING, Feb 15, 2013 (Detroit Free Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Gov. Rick Snyder today named Jeff Holyfield, a journalism and public relations veteran, as his new communications director.

Holyfield replaces Geralyn Lasher, who recently shifted to the Department of Community Health, where she is director for external relations and communications.

Holyfield, who starts March 4, is currently executive director of media relations at Consumers Energy, where he has worked for 15 years. Before that, he was vice president of a Lansing public relations firm for two years.

Holyfield spent 17 years with the Associated Press until 1995, serving as Lansing bureau chief and also working in Denver, Colo., and Kansas City, Mo.

"Jeff's expertise and leadership will be instrumental in enhancing our commitment to share information and helping our team build on its already strong performance," Snyder said in a news release.

He has a bachelor's degree in journalism from Kansas State University and a master's degree in journalism from the Ohio State University.

Holyfield lives in Laingsburg with his wife and the youngest of their three daughters.
