BRIEF: Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputies arrest second suspect in Aptos robbery


Feb 08, 2013 (Santa Cruz Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- WATSONVILLE -Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputies arrested a second suspect Thursday in an ATM robbery that occurred last month in Aptos. .

Deputies arrested Fernando Quintero Olivarez, 20, at his home on Green Valley Road in Watsonville on suspicion of felony robbery, sheriff's Sgt. Patrick Dimick said. .

Olivarez is suspected of helping Miguel Angel Hernandez, also 20, rob a woman a woman at gunpoint as she was using the Bay Federal Credit Union ATM at 105 Post Office Drive in Aptos on Jan. 24.

Deputies were dispatched there around 10:30 p.m. that night when the woman reported she was approached on foot by two men as she was completing her ATM transaction. Both were dressed in black clothing and black ski masks.

One of the men, who deputies say was Hernandez, held a handgun to her head and demanded money. The woman retrieved money from the ATM, handed it over and the two men fled.



Hernandez was arrested Monday at his home in Royal Oaks. He was arraigned Wednesday and is due back in court Feb. 14.

Both men are no longer being held in Santa Cruz County Jail, records show.
