San Andreas woman arrested on ID theft charges


SAN ANDREAS, Feb 05, 2013 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Calaveras County Sheriff's officials said the stop of a woman suspected of driving on a suspended driver's license yielded much more when a deputy found stolen credit card information, drug paraphernalia and burglary tools in her car.



According to a news release, a deputy stopped Amber Nicole McMillan, 28, of San Andreas at 11:35 a.m. Jan. 16 on Highway 49 in San Andreas.

McMillan, who is on probation in San Joaquin County, agreed to allow the deputy to search her and the car. The deputy found a piece of paper containing credit card numbers, expiration dates, and security codes. McMillan reportedly admitted that the information was stolen.


A search of her purse revealed more pieces of paper containing the names, dates of birth, addresses, and additional credit card numbers of numerous people. the deputy also found a digital scale and a substance believed to be methamphetamine, as well as metal knuckles and a shaved vehicle key. Authorities say a shaved key typically is used to break into and steal vehicles.

McMillan was arrested and booked into the Calaveras County jail on the charges of possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, possession of an illegal weapon, possession of burglary tools and identity theft. Deputies are trying to locate and advise the identity theft victims that their personal information was compromised.
