That's up from 13.7 million last year _ and that doesn't even include chatter surrounding the ads.



Snapshots of Sandy: Group restores victims' photosNEW YORK (AP) _ Of all the images of Superstorm Sandy's destruction, the ones that linger for Florence Catania are the torn, stained pictures that hung on her walls. Her mother's decades-old wedding portrait, her own eighth-grade graduation photo, a snapshot that captured her mom on a carefree teenage day, all damaged in a Sandy-sparked fire at Catania's home in suburban Deer Park, N.Y.

Oracle to buy Acme Packet for about $2.1BREDWOOD SHORES, Calif. (AP) _ Oracle will buy Acme Packet Inc., which makes equipment for telecommunications companies, for about $2.1 billion. Acme's gear is used by more than 1,900 service providers and enterprises around the world. Its technology will complement Oracle's offerings for telecoms providers, said Citigroup analyst Walter Pritchard.


Sites let you see Super Bowl ads you missedNEW YORK (AP) _ If you missed any of the Super Bowl ads your friends and co-workers are talking about, Hulu, CBS and YouTube are among the websites that let you watch them. To see all of the ads, you may have to check multiple sites. Hulu and CBS, for instance, didn't have a pre-game Prudential ad that YouTube had. By Monday afternoon, Hulu had the most ads posted _ 78 _ but a handful of them were teasers that ran before Super Bowl Sunday.

Jamaica breaks ground on rare-earth projectKINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) _ Jamaican and Japanese officials on Monday launched a pilot project designed to investigate whether rare-earth elements can be commercially extracted from the island's bauxite waste. Researchers with Japan's Nippon Light Metal Co. Ltd. believe they have found high concentrations of rare-earth elements in the island's red mud, a byproduct of bauxite refining into alumina, the basic material for manufacturing aluminum.

NBCUniversal gathers cable channels under 1 execNEW YORK (AP) _ NBCUniversal has united its cable channels under the command of long-time executive Bonnie Hammer, leaving Lauren Zalaznick, who previously controlled Bravo, Oxygen, Style and Sprout, to focus on innovation and emerging technology initiatives. NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke announced the shakeup and the creation of the Cable Entertainment Group in an internal memo Monday. Hammer already controlled USA Network, Syfy, E!, G4 and other channels.

Foxconn to widen scope of union electionsTAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) _ Taiwan-owned Foxconn Technology Group, a leading maker of Apple's iPhones and gadgets for other global brands, is widening the scope of union elections at its sprawling facilities in China. The move, confirmed by the company Monday, follows a series of recommendations from an international panel requested by Apple to audit conditions for the 1.2 million workers in Foxconn's mainland factories.

Ride-hailing apps offer new way to get around townSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ When Hesky Kutscher needed to get across town, he didn't call a taxi. He tapped a smartphone app called Lyft, which allows users to request car rides. Minutes later, a black hatchback with a big fluffy, pink mustache on its grille pulled up. Kutscher hopped in the front seat and gave the driver a fist bump. Then they cruised over the hilly streets of San Francisco, chatting like neighbors until he was dropped off near Union Square.

Twitter, Washington Post targeted by hackersNEW YORK (AP) _ Social media giant Twitter is among the latest U.S. companies to report that it is among a growing list of victims of Internet security attacks, saying that hackers may have gained access to information on 250,000 of its more than 200 million active users. And now, The Washington Post is joining the chorus, revealing the discovery of a sophisticated cyberattack in 2011. Twitter said in a blog post on Friday it detected attempts to gain access to its user data earlier in the week. It shut down one attack moments after it was detected.

New BlackBerry to be released in US in mid-MarchTORONTO (AP) _ The chief executive of Research In Motion says he's disappointed the new BlackBerry won't be released in the United States until mid-March, but he says early data suggests sales in the U.K. are above expectations. Thorsten Heins said Monday in an interview with The Associated Press that he would be lying if he said he wasn't disappointed in the mid-March U.S. release date. But he says the U.S. and its phone carriers have a rigid testing system.
