World Wide Technology Partners with Atlantis ILIO

Feb 04, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- World Wide Technology, Inc., a systems integrator that provides technology and supply chain solutions announced it is working with Atlantis Computing to optimize storage and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) for the U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) under the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) and Clinical Application Virtualization (ACAV) contract.

According to a release, WWT was awarded the contract for its VDI expertise, ability to find and integrate best of breed technologies and track-record for successfully guiding clients through complex virtualization and cloud computing projects. The company is integrating Atlantis ILIO storage optimization software into a VDI architecture that is being deployed in eight military hospitals across the United States and Europe.

"Atlantis ILIO was instrumental in winning the U.S. Army project because it enabled us to reduce the amount of storage required by 80 percent," said Scott Miller, WWT's director of cloud, virtualization and Advanced Technology Center. "Based on the success at the U.S. Army, we have incorporated Atlantis ILIO into our standard VDI architecture to ensure we can deliver VDI below the cost of physical PCs while improving performance." Atlantis ILIO storage optimization software was selected by WWT based on its ability to enable the NetApp storage array to support five times more Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenApp users, ensure fast response times for medical applications during patient visits, and reduce the risk of storage performance bottlenecks affecting the entire virtual environment. Without Atlantis ILIO software, the virtual desktops and hypervisors compete for the same storage resources, which degrades desktop and application performance.

After validation testing, Atlantis ILIO software was awarded the Certificate of Networthiness (U.S. Army CoN Cert ID: CERT-201211152) from the U.S. Army Medical Command (USAMITIC). This accreditation ensures Atlantis Computing products meet strict U.S. Army and Department of Defense (DoD) standards for security, compatibility and sustainability. This enables government departments to provide VDI storage and performance optimization software solutions that integrate with desktop virtualization projects. The CoN is required for all enterprise software products in the Army Enterprise Infrastructure Network. The certification also applies to all National Guard, Army Reserve and DoD organizations that use the Army Enterprise Infrastructure Network.

The MEDCOM currently manages more than a $13 billion budget and cares for more than 3.95 million beneficiaries-active-duty members of all services, retirees, and their family members.

Atlantis Computing is transforming enterprise desktop computing by solving the challenges of virtual desktop deployments: storage costs, performance and deployment risks.

World Wide Technology, Inc. (WWT) is a $5 billion systems integrator that provides technology and supply chain solutions to the commercial, government and telecom sectors.
