Individuals who are not currently registered in Washington state may register in person up to 8 days prior to the election -- in other words, this coming Monday. Registration must be in person at the Lewis County Auditor's Office, located in the County Courthouse at 351 N.W. North St. in Chehalis. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Auditor's Office is available for assistance to individuals with disabilities, and the elderly, for registration and voting. Tickets for Dave Sherwood Memorial Scholarship Elk Hunt Raffle On Sale Friday By The Chronicle Ticket sales for the Dave Sherwood Memorial Scholarship Elk Hunt raffle will begin on Friday at outlets in Lewis, Thurston, and Cowlitz counties. Tickets cost $25 and the winner will be allowed to hunt for a big bull elk on TransAlta's Centralia mine lands in November. The drawing will take place on May 1 at the Hanke House on the Centralia College campus. The winner is responsible for buying a Washington state hunting license and tag, and will be accompanied by a TransAlta representative during the hunt. Tickets can be purchased by cash or check through either Sandy Yanish at [email protected] or Michael Wagar at [email protected] or at TransAlta's main office in Centralia. To buy one using a debit or credit card, you need to go to the Hanke House at Centralia College, located at 600 Centralia College Blvd., or by calling 736-9391 ext. 290, or visiting [email protected]. Tickets are also on sale at Joe's Outdoor Shop at the Lewis County Mall, the Ethel Market, Wholesale Sports Outdoors Outfitters in Lacey, Book 'n' Brush in Chehalis, Four Corners Market in Castle Rock, Salkum Market in Salkum, Fischer's Shopping Center in Randle, Tri-Mountain Sports in Morton, Blanton's Market in Packwood, Hedden's Pharmacy in Tenino, the Gun Shop in Longview, and at Stanley's Store in Ethel starting Friday. This raffle and elk hunt is in honor of Sherwood, a well-known manager at TransAlta, who died while hunting for elk near Mount St. Helens in 2011. Lewis County Residents Receive Scam Phone Calls Requesting Credit Card Number By The Chronicle Local police would like to remind the community not to give out their credit card information over the phone to automated systems. Chehalis police have been contacted by a number of people reporting an automated message that has been calling both home and cell phones, telling them that their JP Morgan Chase card had been suspended. The number, which shows up on caller ID as a string of 0s, asks people to enter their credit card number, expiration date and pin number. While the Chehalis Police Department has not received any criminal reports of the phone scam, Chief Glenn Schaffer said the department has spoken to several people who contacted police concerned about the scam. "People just need to know that there is never any circumstance where you enter that into the phone," Schaffer said.
