30 Jan update: Communication impacts due to flooding in Queensland

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 31 January 2013 Release date- 30012013 - The following is the latest update on Telstra's efforts to restore telecommunications services in Central and Northern Queensland following severe weather and flooding that has heavily impacted that region.

Although weather conditions have improved across much of the state, Telstra is still working to fully restore all communications services. Like other essential service providers, we have experienced an increase in faults, and technicians continue to combat difficult conditions to complete repairs.

While there has been positive progress to date, a number of sites are still without power, impacting services in Gladstone, Kingaroy, Rockhampton, Springbrook, Oxenford, Beaudesert, Sunshine Nambour, Biloela, Cunningham, Cleveland, Ayr, Ingham, Bundaberg, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

As power is being restored in these areas, we expect to see progressive restoration of services.

There are still several thousand homes that have been evacuated or are without power along the East Coast. Once these areas are safe to enter and people assess the damage caused by this storm front, we anticipate an increase in individual customer faults that our technicians will need to attend to.

Telstra has already brought additional technicians from around the country into the impacted region to assist with this work and we have a team of experts working around the clock monitoring our network and co-coordinating all restoration efforts.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide the community with updates through our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter, and via our Service Status page in addition to regular updates to media.

Telstra apologises for any inconvenience to our customers and wishes to assure them that we are doing everything we can to get them connected as soon as possible.
