(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20100614/CG20517LOGO) "We are excited to be offering this innovative portable device technology portfolio to our global base of buyers. Fast booting times and effective power management for portable devices are important selling points when attracting customers and providing a smooth, user-friendly experience. Thus, this IP package is highly relevant to companies involved in the design and manufacture of devices such as smart phones, tablets, and laptops," says Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage.

Key Characteristics & Benefits The portfolio for sale includes improved techniques for starting-up or instant turn-on of portable devices such as smart phones, laptops, and tablets. The technology also supports mission-critical connected devices integral to performance, safety, and business needs of companies and organizations.

Software programs necessary for the start-up procedure are stored and executed directly from the non-volatile memory within the device, resulting in reduced start-up time. Also, a common bus is used to connect both non-volatile and volatile memories to a processor. Therefore, smaller processors having a lesser number of interface pins can be used.

Further, software codes required only for critical and most frequently used applications - voice telephony, push-to-talk (PTT), or messaging - can be stored in the non-volatile memory. The software may then be executed directly from the non-volatile memory during a low battery, or power save mode. Therefore, power supplied to a volatile memory may be turned off to reduce power consumption. This, in turn, provides extended battery life and faster power-up speeds, which improves the overall user experience.
