Partnership with IceWarp Helps LucaNet Provide New Services and Expand to New Industries

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Springfield, VA (PRWEB) January 30, 2013 IceWarp has announced today a new case study that showcases the successful alliance between the company and LucaNet – its largest partner in Brazil and South America.

Organization: LucaNet started out as a Bulletin Board System (BBS) back in 1990 with over 1000 members, offering files for download, discussion forums, chats between connected users, games, and other services. LucaNet even provided Internet email services , when email was not commercially available in Brazil. At the time, email could take up to one week to arrive to destination using gateways that would route emails overnight.

Challenge: In 1995 the Internet became commercially available in Brazil, and the BBSs virtually ceased to exist. LucaNet adapted its business model to offer hosting services and web site development. At that time, Embratel, a major Brazilian telecommunications services provider and the only state-owned player in the market, was tasked with coordinating the first commercial ISPs to offer Internet access. The operator approached LucaNet and its CEO Flávio Zarur Lucarelli to help test the Brazilian Internet segment on the speed, stability and optimal routes.

CH To launch the project, LucaNet invested in its own mail server. The solution, however, had numerous shortcomings and its developers were not able to solve them.

Solution: LucaNet Sistemas CEO Flávio Zarur Lucarelli started a search for another product and found IceWarp (called Merak at that time).

“The solution received top evaluations on popular download sites, such as Tucows.com,” explained Mr. Lucarelli. “We decided to adopt it to enhance our web hosting services. Also, we got direct help from Jakub Klos, the product’s creator.” Then LucaNet made a step further and decided to initiate partnership with IceWarp. For the brand a new department was created – IceWarp Brazil (http://www.icewarp.com.br).

Results: Partnership with IceWarp allowed LucaNet to penetrate new industry verticals and significantly increase revenue stream.

“We have acquired thousands of new customers in Brazil, including well know companies such as Unimed (health care), TOTVS (major IT consulting firm), Locaweb (major ISP), Brascan (real estate) and others,” notes Mr. Lucarelli.

Also, LucaNet expanded its messaging offerings portfolio using IceWarp. They now include email monitoring (round trip test to guarantee email delivery, incoming and outgoing queue monitoring, DNSBL monitoring, DNS services, email hosting, dedicated server on the cloud hosted in Brazil or USA (using VMware and Xen Citrix), and many more.

“One popular service is the Relay option,” says Mr. Lucarelli. “It uses a powerful IceWarp feature, which lets systems administrators redirect emails to certain destinations via another SMTP Server, either automatically or selectively, based on the destination.” According to Mr. Lucarelli, the goal was to make it easy for IceWarp customers to take advantage of this powerful feature.

“It's always a smart choice to have an alternate SMTP server, in another datacenter, to redirect emails to until you can figure out why a certain destination is blocking your emails,” says Mr. Lucarelli.

Another interesting IceWarp-based service introduced by LucaNet is the secondary mail exchanger record (MX) which holds emails while the primary server is down.

“It lets users read the last 30 days of email received on your primary server (which is constantly copied to the backup server), reply to emails on the secondary server while your primary server is down,” says Mr. Lucarelli. “All messages received on the secondary server are also sent to the primary server when it comes back online.” Another IceWarp add-on implemented by LucaNet is Hosting Controller Panel integrated with the server. “Customers can easily create email accounts and manage their domains,” says Mr. Lucarelli.

The relationship turned out to be a two-way traffic – the innovative ideas that came from LucaNet and Brazilian customers significantly influenced IceWarp’s product development roadmap.

“Inputs from LucaNet lead us to introduce new useful features, such as Log Analyzer and SMTP routing,” says Ladislav Goc, IceWarp President. “Actually, LucaNet is the top partner in terms of feature requests.” For example, LucaNet helped to review and update product documentation and actively participates in the customer support forum.

Future: IceWarp sees LucaNet’s success as a model for its further growth in South America.

“Our experience in Brazil showed that information technology workers in the region are very talented and hard-working,” says Mr. Goc. “We have come to the region to continue explosive growth, and we are actively looking for new partners in Argentina, Chile, Columbia, Peru, Venezuela and other rapidly developing economies. I am confident that with our support they can replicate success of IceWarp Brazil. We would be relying on Mr. Lucarelli’s team to provide advice and inspiration to our future partners in this very promising market.” IceWarp’s global partner ecosystem is a tangible mutual business benefit for both companies.

"IceWarp has interesting differentials,” says Mr. Lucarelli. “Besides the unique product features, it has a solid global presence. With over 20 partners worldwide, IceWarp is truly global and partners do a great job localizing the product for each local market. Partners meet annually in Prague, Czech Republic, to exchange ideas, learn and help make the product better".

In the near future, Mr. Lucarelli expects more business to come from IceWarp-based hosted offerings. “IceWarp has enough power and flexibility to fit many different scenarios,” concludes Mr. Lucarelli.
