Payne County Expo Center switches Internet service providers [Stillwater NewsPress, Okla.]

(Stillwater NewsPress (OK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jan. 30--STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Payne County Expo Center is going wireless.

Payne County commissioners approved a switch to a new Internet service provided for the Expo Center at Wednesday's meeting. Southwestern Bell was providing wired, high-speed Internet service via DSL. Chickasaw Telecom Service Inc. is the new Internet provider, and will provide wireless service using fiber-optic lines instead of telephone lines used in DSL.

Expo Center Administrative Secretary DeeDee Shenold said the Chickasaw Internet service is faster than DSL. It has 5 megabyte per second upload and download capability.

Shenold made the Expo Center's presentation on the Internet switch to County Commissioners.

"We are excited about it," Shenold said, adding the faster Internet connection will be a boon for livestock auctions, and wireless opens Internet connectivity to all buildings and all clients at the Expo Center.

The Expo Center will be charged $580 a month, according to the one-year contract with Chickasaw. The Expo Center will include a 5-percent service fee in the utility charges for everyone who books the Expo Center for events to recover Chickasaw's monthly charge, Shenold said.

During Payne County Fair week, the 5-percent service fee will be added to all inside booth rentals, she said.T ___ (c)2013 the Stillwater NewsPress (Stillwater, Okla.) Visit the Stillwater NewsPress (Stillwater, Okla.) at www.stillwater-newspress.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
