New iPad app launches to help independent filmmakers monetize in a sustainable way

Jan 24, 2013 (PRNewsChannel.com via COMTEX) -- Video distribution startup, Vidwala, launches iPad app for fans to discover independently produced web series PR NewsChannel ROCKLIN, Calif Video distribution platform, Vidwala, released their free platform for independent filmmakers this week. Through this new iPad app, indie filmmakers are able to distribute and monetize video content by directly involving their fans who have a continuing thirst for original web content, in the support role, by bridging the gap between YouTube and iTunes.

Independent filmmakers have been relying on YouTube for promotion and the vast majorities are not making any financial cut that allows them to sustain their creative projects. While many resort to crowd-funding sites like Kickstarter to raise initial funding for their web series and films, these sites are not geared toward repeatable funding. The true success and sustainability for these indie filmmakers comes from a marketplace that incorporates a better monetization option. By utilizing Apple's simple to use in-app micro payment system for digital content, Vidwala's iPad app allows fan to purchase shows, which directly translates into earning for the producers. Fans play a vital role in any web series success and they now have a way to cast their support one micro payment at a time.

Vidwala's iPad and its entire internet-connected device platform allows indie producers with both impulse purchase and traditional advertising options for maximum monetization opportunity with their loyal fans.

Filmmakers are able to promote their films and web series and reach new audiences through the self-service system which makes it easy for producers to upload videos, create shows and set their own prices. Vidwala empowers indie producers to be in control of their distribution.

Fans enjoy the security and ease of in-app purchase to buy their favorite shows and even have the option to download episodes to watch them offline.

"Vidwala's pay-to-view purchases works like crowd-funding for indie producers and their future projects," said Vidwala cofounder Lance Miller. "By buying episodes for less than a cup of coffee, followers support their favorite shows and filmmakers, resulting in freshnew episodes." Technology for viewing online video is changing. Consumers who once turned to the Internet for entertainment are now turning to apps on smart phones and tablets. Vidwala is the first distribution platform to build an indie video delivery system focused on monetization and sustainability of the independent video ecosystem.

"We embraced the mobile app path at the outset for a better user experience," said the video distribution app cofounder Kabir Mohammed. "This is the distribution and monetization platform that independent producers have been waiting for." Filmmakers retain full ownership of their content and can monitor traffic through Vidwala's real time analytics. An HTML5 version for free content was released on January 15th. Vidwala for iPhone, Android and other devices will be released at a later date in 2013.

Follow Vidwala on Twitter @vidwala and on Facebook (http://facebook.com/vidwala) About VidwalaVidwala was created out of the lack of options for independent producers to monetize their content. Most indie producers have to rely on sites like YouTube to promote and hope to make money from high view counts through traditional ad revenue splits. This is the model of quantity over quality. What we want to do is encourage producers to create high quality content and give them control over how they make money from their content.
