ThinkAnalytics Secures RDK License from Comcast

LONDON and LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- ThinkAnalytics(TM), the world leader in multiplatform TV search and recommendations, today announced it is the first recommendations engine to license The Reference Design Kit (RDK) software stack from Comcast. The RDK is a pre-integrated software bundle that creates a common framework for powering tru2way®, IP or hybrid set-top boxes (STBs), and video gateway devices. The RDK initiative is intended to speed the development and deployment of next-gen video services such as cloud-based functionality, and enhanced guide experiences with richer graphics and better search capabilities. The agreement enables ThinkAnalytics to provide software development, integration and testing services to STB and chip manufacturers as well as MSOs who are planning to take advantage of The RDK.

"The RDK is a critical tool in our continued commitment to providing integrated solutions that help move the industry forward in the next wave of consumer TV interactivity," said Peter Docherty, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, ThinkAnalytics. "Leveraging our depth and breadth of experience as the worldwide leading provider of personalized, multiplatform recommendations, we are proud to be the first recommendations engine currently supporting The RDK's initiative to provide consumers with richer, multiscreen experiences in today's rapidly-changing TV environment." "One of our goals with The RDK program is to foster a community of innovators focused on bringing enhanced user experiences to consumers, by providing a platform that enables these new applications and services across a broad set of STB, gateway, and system-on-a-chip (SoC) platforms," said Steve Reynolds, Senior Vice President, CPE and Home Network, Comcast. "Robust and effective search and recommendations are key for developers, operators and device manufacturers looking to rapidly deliver more intuitive and compelling multiscreen experiences. ThinkAnalytics' support of The RDK further accelerates our commitment to providing the next-gen video solutions and platforms that will propel the next evolution of TV interactivity." ThinkAnalytics' Recommendations Engine enables broadcasters and pay-TV operators to deliver highly personalized TV recommendations that combine multiple sources of data (linear TV consumption, VOD, DVR, etc.) across multiple screens (Web, tablets, mobile, social media, etc.), in more than 10 languages.
