Itron and ClipperCreek Deliver Revenue-Grade Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. --(Business Wire)--

Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ:ITRI) and ClipperCreek announced today that Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), provider of electricity to nine million people across seven southeastern states, will install revenue-grade electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in collaboration with selected distributors in its territory. Installation of the charging stations is scheduled to begin in mid-2013. The solution includes ClipperCreek charging stations embedded with Itron sensor technologies, such as revenue-grade metrology, cellular communications and a ZigBee® communication module.

With these charging stations, TVA can charge utility service vehicles while accurately measuring energy used. In addition, TVA can retrieve interval data collected at the charging station through a ZigBee smart meter interface. The stations allow for flexible control of charging, receiving inputs (such as charging schedules and control signals for emergency demand response) from TVA, local distribution companies or local charging station operators.

"Itron is always seeking ways to create efficiencies for our customers. Working with ClipperCreek to deliver the revenue-gade charging stations does just that," said Mark de Vere White, senior vice president of Itron Energy Group in North America. "Our cellular meter is the perfect complement to ClipperCreek's charging station. Cellular communications leverage existing infrastructure, making the charging stations easy and affordable to connect regardless of their location."

"The ability to provide revenue-grade metering, along with demand response and load control, allows utilities to provide superior service and features to their customers while reducing costs," said Jason France, ClipperCreek CEO. "Combining our charge stations with Itron's metering and communications technology gives utilities a choice of communications options along with the reassurance of Itron's industry-leading metrology."
