BRIEF: Oneonta Blockbuster's fate unclear

Jan 23, 2013 (The Daily Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Dish Network announced Tuesday that it will close 300 Blockbuster video- and game-rental stores in the next several weeks, but it remained a mystery whether the Oneonta location would be among them.

A call to the Oneonta store Tuesday resulted only a referral to a corporate phone number for Dish.

Voicemail messages left with representatives at Dish's headquarters in Meridian, Colo., were answered via email by Danielle Johnson of its corporate communications department.

"Some of the approximately 300 stores are reaching the end of their lease, and others are closing based on overall performance," she wrote. "At this time, the locations of closing stores have not been announced." "I am only able to confirm that stores will close within the coming weeks," she wrote in response to a second email. "Closures will be communicated individually with affected stores, which will communicate its closure with area customers." ___ (c)2013 The Daily Star (Oneonta, N.Y.)
