Details released on weapons cache case


Jan 18, 2013 (Odessa American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A federal complaint has revealed more details about a man who was arrested Tuesday after a shots fired call resulted in a charge of unlawfully possessing a firearm.



Julian Matthew Resendes, 24, and his brother, 21-year-old Kelly Resendes, were arrested Tuesday after a shots fired call at 5212 Conley Place after officers searched the residence and found a number of weapons.

According to a federal complaint, Julian Resendes was found at the residence after the shots fired call and he and his brother were searched for weapons.


Julian Resendes had a handgun bullet magazine in his pocket, according to the complaint, and said the gun was in the "weapons closet" inside the house.

When asked further about the closet in the compliant, his brother Kelly Resendes confirmed its existence.

"Yes, my brother has all kinds of guns and weapons in there," Kelly Resendes said in the complaint.

During the search of the closet, after a warrant had been obtained, officers found a Saiga 12-gauge shotgun, a Taurus 1911 handgun and several knives, machetes, throwing stars and tactical vests, according to the complaint.

The officers also found a Hi-Point 9 mm handgun in a bedroom, according to the complaint, which was the gun matching the magazine found in Julian Resendes' pocket.

While looking through the rest of the house, officers found a small bottle of testosterone, according to the complaint, which Kelly Resendes told officers belonged to his brother, Julian Resendes.

According to the complaint, Julian Resendes also admitted to smoking marijuana before officers arrived at the scene.

The complaint also lists that Julian Resendes has been indicted with evading arrest and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges in Ector County.

Seth Dell Bird, 22, also was arrested in connection with the incident.

Julian Resendes had also previously been charged with three counts of aggravated robbery, misdemeanor evading arrests and traffic-related misdemeanor offenses.
