Stonesoft Tapped as Finalist in Info Security Products Guide's Global Excellence Awards

Jan 18, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Stonesoft announced that Info Security Products Guide, an information security research and advisory guide, has named Stonesoft's Evader and Evasion Prevention System (EPS) as finalists for the 2013 Global Excellence Awards in the New Product Launch category.

According to a release, the global awards recognize security and IT vendors with advanced, ground-breaking products and solutions that are helping set the bar higher for others in all areas of security and technologies.

Evader, the company said, is a software-based testing tool that empowers organizations to test their network security solutions' ability to withstand Advanced Evasion Techniques (AETs), which are increasingly used in cyberattacks. AETs are used to attack networks by combining several known evasion methodologies to create a new, previously unknown and dynamically changing technique that is delivered over several layers of a network, simultaneously. This allows the attacker to successfully deliver any exploit, malicious payload or code to a target host without detection. Evader launches a set of AETs against a tester's own next generation firewall (NGFW), Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and Unified Threat Management (UTM). As a result, organizations can understand whether these AETs pose a threat to their own networks and business-critical digital assets.

Stonesoft added that its EPS provides organizations with an easy and effective way to mitigate the risk of AETs and to address security gaps in identifying and eliminating cyber-attacks using AETs. The product provides an additional security layer to existing AET-vulnerable next generation firewalls (NGFW), intrusion prevention systems (IPS) and unified threat management (UTM) devices.

"Despite the rising concern, only a few security vendors have built adequate AET prevention features into their network security products to counter these sophisticated attack methods, leaving businesses and government agencies at risk," said Phil Lerner, VP of Technology for Stonesoft. "We are proud to have our Evader and EPS tools recognized by the industry as being necessary and reliable solutions, which keep organizations safe from AETs."
