BRIEF: Jupiter Town Council delays vote on $1.1 million for new software [The Palm Beach Post, Fla.]

(Palm Beach Post (FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jan. 16--JUPITER -- A vote to approve a contract for about $1.1 million to pay a Dallas, Texas, firm to provide computer software was delayed by the town council Tuesday night until next month in a unanimous decision.

Councilman Jim Kuretski asked for the delay, saying he wanted further clarification on maintenance of the software program.

"This is a huge amount of money. We have to make sure we are getting the proper benefits," Kuretski said.

The proposal calls for Tyler Technologies to provide the equipment to improve the application and review process for permits and code compliance. The new system would allow customers to check the status of their projects online and provide access to other agencies, such as the county fire department.

Tyler Technologies is one of four companies that bid for the job. The current software system is about 20 years old. The new system also would reduce paper storage by up to 80 percent, according to town records.

"This will speed up the review process and let customers know where they are in the process," said Mayor Karen Golonka.

The council vote is scheduled for Feb. 5.
