KP Public Affairs Announces Expanded Healthcare Practice and Addition of Bryce Docherty

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

KP Public Affairs is pleased to announce the expansion of its healthcare services and addition of Bryce Docherty to the firm's lobbying team. Mr. Docherty specializes in advocacy of healthcare and medical interests before all areas of California state government. He was most recently President & CEO of The Docherty Group, and will merge his firm and clients into KP's practice.

It is anticipated that healthcare will be a leading issue in the policy arena for 2013. In the coming months, efforts to implement the Federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) will intensify and key policy decisions will be up for discussion - in California and nationwide. Furthermore, there is debate regarding changes in the Medi-Cal Program and implementation of the California Health Benefit Exchange.

KP is well-suited to work with healthcare stakeholders that will want to be engaged with the Legislature, Governor Brown,Department of Heath Care Services (DHCS) and other regulatory and oversight bodies in terms of how they plan to establish access and quality care metrics and how to evaluate overall performance of these transitions over the course of 2013.

"We understand the central role that healthcare policy will take in the legislative discussion this coming year, so we are excited to grow our expertise and capabilities in this domain," said Michael Burns, managing partner of KP Public Affairs.

Mr. Docherty will lead KP's representation of several clients including the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, California Orthotic & Prosthetic Association, California Ambulatory Surgery Association, and Surgical Care Affiliates.

"Bryce is recognized as an expert in the healthcare advocacy arena, and has a strong track record of successfully shaping policy and budget issues related to health services and government program implementation," said Burns.

Mr. Docherty also currently serves as Executive Director of the California Orthotic & Prosthetic Association and is an Adjunct Professor at Touro University specializing in grassroots lobbying and the importance of political advocacy. Prior to establishing his firm, Mr. Docherty was the Associate Director of Government Relations for the California Medical Association. He also has experience before the Michigan Legislature as a legislative advocate for the Michigan State Medical Society.
